Facelift (Rhytidectomy)
A facelift is a surgical procedure performed to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck to improve: sagging in the midface; deep creases below the lower eyelids; deep creases along the nose extending to the corners of the mouth; fat that has fallen or is displaced; loss of muscle tone in the lower face that may create jowls; loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw that can make even a person of normal weight appear to have a double chin. Other rejuvenating procedures that may be done in conjunction with a face lift are a brow lift, which corrects sagging or a deeply furrowed brow, or eyelid surgery, which to rejuvenates aging eyes
There are a few different approaches that can be used with a facelift procedure. This will determine the length and placement of your incision(s), which will be concealed in a natural facial crease or in your hairline.
Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Blepharoplasty is performed to improve the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both to give a rejuvenated appearance to the surrounding area of the eyes, making you look more rested and alert. Blepharoplasty can treat: loose or sagging skin that creates folds or alters the natural contour of the upper eyelid; excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids; bags under the eyes; droopiness of the lower eyelids; excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid. A common reason seek eyelid surgery is that they are constantly told that they “look tired”.
Incisions for eyelid surgery will be concealed within the natural structures of the eyelid region. Through the incision(s), fat deposits are repositioned or removed, muscles and tissues are tightened, and excess skin is removed.
Brow Lift
A brow lift can correct expression lines or other signs of aging in the brow region by: minimizing the creases that develop across the forehead or those that occur high on the bridge of the nose between the eyes; improving “frown lines”, the vertical creases that develop between the eyebrows; repositioning a low or sagging brow that is creating a hood over the upper eyelid; raising the eyebrows to a more alert and youthful position.
A brow lift is often performed along with a facelift or other facial rejuvenation procedures. Incisions are made in the scalp, through which the muscles that cause wrinkling and frown lines are modified and the skin is gently pulled upward to smooth the forehead.
Rhinoplasty (Reshaping of Nose)
While the shape of your nose is usually the result of heredity, the appearance may have been altered in an injury or during prior surgery. Rhinoplasty improves the appearance and proportion of the nose and may also correct impaired breathing caused by structural abnormalities in the nose.
Rhinoplasty can change: nose size in relation to other facial structures; nose width at the bridge; nose profile with visible humps or depressions on the bridge; nasal asymmetry or deviation; a nasal tip that is too large, drooping, or upturned; nostrils that are too large, wide or upturned. The surgery is generally done through incisions inside your nose and possibly an incision on the underside of your nose between your nostrils, concealed by the natural skin crease.
Otoplasty (Ear Pinning / Ear Reduction)
Otoplasty can improve the shape, size, protrusion or positioning of your ears. For children, otoplasty is often recommended as they near total ear development at age five to six. Correction of the ears prior to the child entering school helps eliminate potential psychological trauma from the teasing of classmates.
Cartilage, the supporting tissue of the ears, is reshaped in order to position your ears closer to your head. This is accomplished through incisions placed behind your ears, which will be concealed in the natural skin crease.
